5 Easy Ways to Introduce Biophilia Into Your Life

In the last post we explored the concept of biophilia and why it’s important for our health and well-being. Here are five easy ways to connect with nature so you can start to feel the benefits!

Head to your local park: Why not head to your local park and surround yourself with nature? Even if you can't get to a forest, the grassy park or wooded trail nearby can do wonders. Try practicing walking meditation, where you take in the sights, sounds, and details of nature all around you. Or just sit and listen to the birds. Take deep breaths. Repeat daily.

Create a personal garden: Nurturing plants can be a great way to connect with nature. If you don't have much room, consider starting with a windowsill garden or pots some plants on your front step or grow some basil or mint for your kitchen.

Bring flowers into your home: There's nothing like a fresh bouquet to add some energy to your living space. The colors, scent, and beauty of flowers can be deeply healing. Ideally buy a sustainable bouquet from a local producer or at your farmer’s market.

Diffuse essential oils: Essential oils are a great way to bring some of the outdoors inside. Oils can help with all kinds of things, like soothing ailments, aiding with sleep and bringing in some of the scents you might find in nature like pine or juniper. Eucalyptus is invigorating, meanwhile lavender or camomile can help relax you at the end of the day. Buy organic where possible.

Learn about healing with herbs: Plants are natural medicine. Herbs, in particular, have been used for thousands of years to help us heal and stay healthy. Using herbs, whether in teas or cooking, can be a wonderful way to connect with the healing power of nature.•
